Anand Karaj: Sikh wedding ceremony
Understanding the ceremony sequence and planning respectful coverage at the gurdwara.
What it is
Anand Karaj is the Sikh marriage ceremony. It includes the four Lavan hymns and ceremonial rounds around Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It should be distinguished from Hindu wedding steps or fire rituals.
Where it fits in your day
Confirm the full ceremony programme with the gurdwara. Ask who will lead the service, which family members have roles and when the couple and guests will move between parts of the celebration.
Planning photography and video
Follow the gurdwara’s instructions for dress, head covering, camera positions and movement. We plan views of the couple and relatives from those permitted positions, and discuss audio arrangements for the service.
The details that matter to your family
The ceremony and any separate family celebrations need their own schedules. Share travel, outfit changes and portrait plans so those parts of the day can be arranged around the service.
Questions for your planning conversation
What ceremony programme has the gurdwara confirmed? Where may the crew stand? When will family portraits happen?
