Saptapadi: seven wedding steps

A Hindu ceremony term, with attention to the sequence chosen by your family and priest.

What it is

Saptapadi describes seven steps taken together in many Hindu marriage ceremonies. Hindu rituals vary by region, community and family; seven steps should not automatically be treated as the same event as ceremonial rounds around the fire.

Where it fits in your day

Ask your priest how saptapadi fits into your own ceremony and how it relates to other steps or rounds you are including. A shared term does not guarantee a shared order of events.

Planning photography and video

Send us the ceremony outline and identify the direction of movement and any relatives taking part. We plan to show the couple together, their movement and the people supporting them while respecting the ritual space.

The details that matter to your family

A clear explanation from your priest or family helps us anticipate the action without interrupting it. Tell us which spoken words, gestures and family reactions matter to the record of your ceremony.

Questions for your planning conversation

How will your priest perform saptapadi? Which steps or rounds are separate events? What camera positions are permitted?
