Wedding ring blessing and exchange

The blessing, spoken promises and giving of rings in a Catholic wedding ceremony.

What it is

In a Catholic marriage celebration, rings are blessed and given during the rite of marriage. In Portuguese they are called alianças; in Spanish, anillos. The rite is shared across cultures.

Where it fits in your day

The blessing and each placement of a ring are separate actions within one ceremony sequence. Your parish’s confirmed order of service tells us when they happen and who will hold or bring the rings.

Planning photography and video

Let us know who will carry the rings and where you will stand. We plan a view of your hands and faces from the camera positions the parish permits. For video, the spoken words belong with the act of giving the ring.

The details that matter to your family

Tell us about heirloom rings, an engraving or a relative’s role in bringing them. Detail photographs can be arranged before the ceremony, leaving the ceremony itself to unfold naturally.

Questions for your planning conversation

Who will bring the rings? Are any heirlooms or engravings important? What photography positions does the parish allow?
